Weekend Tours

Discover the history of the Barton National & Infants School and it’s unique link with the “inventor” of infant schooling, Samuel Wilderspin.

These special tours are held on the first Sunday of each month when the Museum is closed to general visitors. They’re free for Annual Ticket holders. Annual Tickets cost £5.

Forthcoming tour dates are 3 November and 8 December.

Tour times are 11am and 1.30pm. Please book by phone on (01652) 635172 by the preceding Friday.

Between April and December 1844, the school on Queen Street was conceived, designed and built, opening as a National School for Boys, Girls and Infants in the New Year.  This remarkable achievement is documented in the School’s Minutes Book and is the focus of this special exhibition at St. Mary’s Church, Burgate.
